SweatCity Spotlight - Steff Sullivan

Name: Steff Sullivan

Social Handle: @fitnursepreneur

We want to get to know you. Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do!

Hey everyone! My name is Steff, and I am completely obsessed with anything health and wellness. My mantra, Sweat Daily, Eat Clean + Mind Your Mind is how I live my life. I am a firm believer in the importance of movement, nourishing your body and most importantly, taking care of your mind. Everything I offer the world somehow falls into these categories. By trade, I am a Registered Nurse currently working downtown Toronto in Fertility & Reproductive Health.

I also run an online wellness store and mentor people through nutrition programs and teach others how to run businesses. I share my wellness journey on my blog www.steffsullivan.com and over on my Instagram @fitnursepreneur. I am also the creator of a social self-care movement called Prescription Self-Care, a by-product of some of the lowest times in my mental and physical health. I am also in the final stages of completing my barre certification through Barre Works Toronto and I cannot wait to start teaching classes and bringing my love for fitness to the community in a new way! I know that I am here on this Earth to help change people’s lives, and I am so blessed to be able to do that every day through all of the above avenues.

What is your favourite way to sweat in your city?

I don’t think I could pick a favourite way to sweat as I seriously love all types of movement but I will say, group fitness is my jam. I am so much more inspired and energetic when I am around others! Okay, I am a little competitive too…but I use this healthy competition to enhance my performance! I love working out in large groups, cheering people on and especially sweating for a good cause. My latest workout curiosity is boxing. It’s something I picked up last year that is VERY humbling. Trying a workout that you are not typically “good” at teaches you many lessons. Boxing also works both my body and mind, and I love that about it!

What inspires you to live a healthy, balanced lifestyle? Why is health and fitness important to you?

I hit severe burnout a few years ago both physically and mentally and have suffered some severe injuries since that time. For me it isn’t about inspiration, it is about integrity with my values. My health is my number one priority in my life, but it wasn’t always this way. As a giver it is very easy to put yourself last, but I have come to realize (and am still learning) through experiences in my life that I do not have a choice. I cannot serve the world in the way that I want if I am not living a healthy lifestyle, which includes balancing indulgence with commitment to my goals. It’s a constant flow state that is always shifting. The biggest lesson I’ve learnt is to be kind to myself and tune into what I need on a daily basis.

What does community mean to you?

Community is by far my favourite word that exists. It is what lights me up, why I do what I do and it’s what I excel in creating. Since having found the health and wellness community of Toronto, and all of it’s subsets I have found more of myself. Community to me is finding (or creating for yourself) a group of people who have the same values and interests as you, that support you and cheer you on, that are there for you but also that push you to be your true and best self. Without the various communities I am a part of or the ones I have created I would not be where I am or who I am today. Community is EVERYTHING.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone who is looking to get started on their own fitness journey, what would it be?

Take the first step. It can be scary to make a changes but the fear of staying the same is FAR greater. It just takes starting, and starting again each day you are given.
